In any case, I always thought it was funny when people would tell me this because it's a complete and total contradiction to my work-persona -- organized, structured, responsible.
Lately, though, I got to thinking that maybe it was because of my overbearing focus on work-- my ambition, and my trying to keep everything in order at the office-- that was pushing into the time I could otherwise dedicate to organizing and fully enjoying my after-work life.. makes sense to include this type of theme into my resolutions this year.
Just want to jot down some of the resolutions I am making for 2010 before I conveniently forget them :)
1) Live my life with purpose.
I want to make sure this year is meaningful, and to contribute to the meaningfulness of others' lives as well. Your life is only as meaningful as how you touch others' lives, after all.
2) Be more HEALTHY! (several sections go into this one).
2a) It's all about that routine schedule! No more late nights up for no reason.. try to get into bed before 11 every night so I can watch the cow jump over the moon by midnight. This goes for most weekends too-- now that I've gotten passed the excitement of nightlife, the intriguing effects of heavy drinking, and now that I no longer find it all that fun, I can actually accomplish this. YAY! bed! :)
2b) Wake up earlier. Do more day-time activities. So many new yorkers think living in New York is all about the parties and nightlife. I've never bought into this thought. In fact, there are so many things in the daytime that you'll miss out on if you spend every night drinking your liver to death and sleeping in till 1 in the afternoon, only to barely make it up to eat some greasy food in your hungover state of being. yick.. the thought of that makes me tired. Instead will play tennis, picnic in the park, go biking, and more! :)
2c) Run once a week. I wrote twice at first, but who am I kidding, I don't go to the gym more than once a month right now, so I will set my goals HIGH by saying once a week. Better yet, if I run 12 times this year, I am happy. Baby steps. :)
2d) Take dance classes regularly. Seems like I get so pumped up for dance classes, then work comes along and I miss all the classes I scheduled/paid for. This time, if I schedule classes, I MUST make a point of leaving work to make it to them!
2e) Eat less red meat, drink more red wine :) I was told my cholesterol was slightly high last year during a checkup. The nurse recommended I cut down on my red meat, shellfish and red wine intake. Break my heart! I will give up some red meat for a little more red wine.. and since work no longer pays for my lobster dinners, it will all balance out in the end. Great plan. =)
3) Find the balance between work and enjoying life. I can't keep working the way I have the past several years-- I think I've burnt myself out actually. This year I will try to stay positive at work, be productive when at the office, and then LEAVE when the clock tells me it's time to move on~~ gotta get that run / dance class in before my early bedtime!
4) Finish at least ONE of the 5-6 books I started reading last year.
5) Learn to carve.. I went snowboarding for the first time in December and got so excited I bought myself all the gear... happy birthday to me~~! :D Must put it all to good use, and since I am now a person who owns their own stuff, I must become decent at this new hobby! :)
6) Find a great summer project, like work on a boat or something like that.
That's good for right now.. must go for a run before bedtime.. woo hoo~~~~! :)
